Videos that are likely to become memes or viral GIFs should be hilariously funny featuring people looking all confused with life. This is exactly what some infomercials look like, especially the ones with the actors trying to do the simplest things ever but fail at it.
At first glance, it’s confusing to understand who would take those seriously because it doesn’t seem like a realistic situation. Who ever broke a table while pouring cola? But this Tumblr user may have found the answer and apparently, the answer isn’t so funny after all.
According to this user, the reason why these actors purposely look ridiculous is because these products, or at least 90% of them, are designed for people with disabilities.
Our simple everyday actions aren’t so simple for these people to perform, and this is the reason why actors try to “mimic disability”.
So why don’t they just get a disabled person? This theory proposes that it because these companies want the product and their advertisements to reach more market.
Users were quickly interested in this theory but also were skeptical.
In an interview with Gary Clegg, the inventor of the Snuggie, he confirmed that this product really was made for that cold dorm he had.
Whether these products were made for persons with disability or not, it is comforting to know that these can help all sorts of people with their everyday work. It is a nice reminder that this inclusion in the community is something that we must always give importance to, whatever our role is.
