It might be sizzling hot outside and you might be sweating buckets, but don’t let that scare you from putting on a bright red lip. Feel alive and fierce with that fiery red accent.

Before, I thought red lipsticks were only for special occasions. Now, I carry a red lippie in my makeup kit wherever I go. What changed? I really just went for it. Who says you can’t wear bright lip colors everyday? A golden rule in makeup is to try new things every now and then.

From American to new Filipino brands, here are 10 highly recommended red lipsticks that won’t hurt your budget.

Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes in Rich Ruby (P299)

This Rich Ruby reminds me instantly of MAC’s Ruby Woo just because of the name. Like Ruby Woo, Rich Ruby is a true red that can suit any skin tone. It’s that “bagay sa lahat” red you’ve been searching for. Just make sure you’re ready to rock this shade!

L’Oreal Color Riche Collection Star Red in Aishwarya Rai – Pure Brick (P400)

This is another highly recommended drugstore lippie in a true red shade. Pure Brick reminds me of the Louboutin trademark red sole – a beautiful eye-catching accent alongside a very muted makeup look.

Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Monte Carlo (P390)

Okay, I absolutely love the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream formulas! They last forever and for me, they even last longer than MAC’s lipsticks. It might vary for you though but please do me a favor and try this product! I’ve gone on stage for 3 hours on them and it’s still intact right after. They smell like cake too!

These babies are on sale so get them at P300 only at NYX stores until April 30, 2017!

Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Amsterdam (P390)

I only had money for one Soft Matte Lip Cream back then so I had to choose between Amsterdam and Monte Carlo and it was one of the hardest decisions ever! I’m a warm tone so this orange red was really my first choice. I ended up getting Monte Carlo but you’ll probably see me in the NYX sale buying this shade.

Pink Sugar’s Sugar Tint – Lip and Cheek Tint in Red Rouge (P349)

If you’re still scared of defined red lips, try for a lip tint! Pink Sugar has been making headlines lately with their new products and outstanding brand reviews so go try their products out while your at it. Pink Sugar’s lip tint has been a highly recommended product by my friends because it’s multipurpose, pigmented, and most importantly, cheap!

Sleek Makeup Matte Me in Fired Up (P450)

Sleek’s Matte Me formula is a bit drying for me because it is matte. But when dealing with mattes, apply a good amount of lip balm first and then your matte lipstick and that should do the trick.

Wet n Wild Megalast Lipstick in Stoplight Red (P299)

Wet n Wild’s Megalast Lipstick is a super pigmented lippie that can also double as a stain. They’re quite difficult to wipe off which I view as a good thing because it really doesn’t budge and stays on your lips. The only thing you should watch out for is that the formula is quite “thick” and it has that round shape so the application can be a bit tricky.

Skinpotions Lip Cake in Red Velvet (P399)

Skinpotions is a new local brand I discovered while browsing BeautyMNL. This lipstick is more pink than it is red, so if you can’t let go of that bright pink lip but still want to gradually venture into red, this is the lippie for you.

Revlon Super Matte Lustrous Lipstick in Retro Red (P350)

I’ve been using the Revlon Lustrous lipsticks since I was in high school (for events of course, we can’t wear makeup in school huhu) and they have not disappointed me since. They’re creamy and easy to apply and my instant recommendation for the makeup beginner. The good thing about this lippie is that it’s not as pigmented as the others so you can really pack on as much as you like, depending on what look you’re going for. This also doubles as a cheek stain!

Pinkies Collection Liquid Lipsticks in Luscious (P225)

Pinkies Collections is a newbie in the Filipino makeup sphere. Although, they have nothing to fear. With this kind of quality product at only P225, they’ll be sure to reach the top right away. Luscious is their take on the true red which looks amazing on camera and in person. This is a real attention grabber.

Tbh, I love red lipsticks because they’re so versatile. Wear them from work to play, and you’ll never be underdressed. You can even apply it as a gradient if you’re not a fan of that defined lip.
