As a Marvel villain, Nebula was always the opportunist villain which may also be the reason of her switching sides in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 became so fulfilling. But the actress, Karen Gillan, said that she wasn’t even supposed to be alive to have a choice in the first place.
In an interview, Gillan said “I definitely had a feeling that there was room for the character to expand in the future, but she was originally supposed to din in the first movie, I think I remember in the script.”
In case you missed it, the first script was written by Nicole Perlman. But when James Gunn was hired, he changed a lot of scene as the director. But after watching the second movie, we think that it was fitting for Nebula to survive. Not only did she get a major role in the film, it also sets up the possible interaction between the Guardians and the Avengers for Infinity War.
We really hope that Nebula will have the chance to meet Loki. They have a lot of sibling issues, after all.
