In a recent report by Soompi, popular K-Pop boy group BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan) composed of seven artists becomes the first Korean group to win at the Billboard Music Awards. BTS took home the Top Social Award after voting showed almost 300 million tweets with the hashtag ‘#BTSBBMAS’. The K-Pop group won against Justin Bieber (who has been winning this award since 6 years ago), Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, and Shawn Mendes.
While BTS became the first Korean group to win, they are the second Korean artist to receive an award at the BBMAs next to PSY who won for the Top Streaming Song last 2013 for the hit song ‘Gangnam Style’. They have been placing significantly well at the Billboard Charts last year with their songs WINGS and Spring Day.
BTS Member Kim Nam Joon a.k.a. Rap Monster gave the acceptance speech at the awards saying, “Most importantly, this award belongs to every people all around the world that shine the love and light on us by the millions and make BTS proud.” He also acknowledges the unending support given by their ARMYs all around the world.
