The cape is off. Liza Soberano is the new Darna.

The confirmation comes from the young actress herself in an interview with MJ Felipe (of ABS-CBN News). “Yes, it is confirmed,” she says. “Tinatanggap ko na ang role na Darna…I’m happy and I feel really honored to be able to don the iconic costume and to be able to embody what she represents.”

Soberano was among the small pool of women—Nadine Lustre, Pia Wurtzbach, Sarah Geronimo, and more—rumored to bring the beloved heroine to life. When the film was first announced in 2015, filmmaker Erik Matti wanted Angel Locsin to wear the cape. Locsin, however, had to turn down the role due to a severe back injury.

Directed by Erik Matti, Darna is slated for a 2017 release. However, I’m thinking this is unlikely since the film is only in its early stages of production.

What do you guys think? Will Liza make a great Darna?
