The Erik Matti-produced Ang Pagsanib Kay Leah Dela Cruz is hitting theaters later this month. The film, which stars Shy Carlos and Sarah Lahbati, is the first offering from the new film outfit, Kamikaze Pictures, a joint venture between Viva Films Matti’s Reality Entertainment. A teaser for the film has recently emerged; it doesn’t give much in the way of plot, but some pretty intriguing images are revealed. Check it out:
The main thing to point out is the absence of any male presence. Carlos and Lahbati top bill the film. Based on the trailer, we can probably tell, they are playing the roles of the afflicted and—presumably—the “exorcist” of sorts. A female-driven story, this looks like. Of course, what this means (if it does mean anything at all) remains to be seen.
Reality has been developing the project for five years with a script that was initially developed by Miko Lovelo (Pwera Usog) and Joel Ferrer (Blue Bustamante, Baka Siguro Yata). The film is directed by Katski Flores working from a script written by Charlene Sawit-Esguerra.
There’s no scarcity of possession-horror in Philippine cinema: last year’s Seklusyon, directed by Erik Matti, discussed plenty of issues concerning religion, and the criminally lambasted Tragic Theater, directed by Tikoy Aguiluz, framed possession as something of an assault worthy of discussion and justice.
Ang Pagsanib Kay Leah Dela Cruz will hit theaters June 28th, but an advanced special screening with Q&A with the cast and crew is happening at the U.P. Cine Adarna on June 14, 7:30 p.m.
