In case you didn’t know, there is a character in Robert Kirkman’s massively successful zombie saga, The Walking Dead named Jesus. And much to the chagrin of conservatives, he’s gay.

In honor of Pride Month, The Walking Dead pays tribute to the comic’s fearless character with a variant cover (created by Sina Grace and Tamra Bonvillain) depicting Jesus dismembering a Walker from the waist up. While a little on the nose, the rainbow flag which serves as a makeshift spear adds a layer of interest to the cover.

Of course, Jesus is one of the most beloved characters in the series, and many attest (including this writer) that he’s an atypically positive representation of the LGBTQ+ community.

Beyond The Walking Dead, Image Comics is releasing more LGBTQ+ variant issues for other titles every Wednesday this month. All proceeds from said issues go to the Human Rights Foundation.
