The Battleship Island, a 2017 South Korean movie directed by Ryoo Seung Wan and starring Descendants of the Sun lead actor Song Joong Ki, will premiere in Philippine cinemas nationwide on August 30, 2017. This was announced through VIVA International Pictures’ Facebook page last July 31.
The film is about the 60,000 Koreans who were forced into labor camps and mines in Japan’s Hashima Island back in 1945. Because of the harsh and inhumane working conditions in the island, hundreds of Koreans plan and execute a prison break.
Before we see Song Joong Ki married off to Song Hye Kyo this October, he’s back on the big screen as a member of the Korean Independence Group in The Battleship Island. This film also stars Hwang Jung Min as a father who goes to Japan to save his daughter, and Oh My Venus lead actor So Ji Sub as one of Korea’s top fighters.
According to Soompi, The Battleship Island has already reached 5 million tickets sold. On the first day of screening alone the film has reached 970,516 ticket sales, the highest a ticket sales on the first day in Korean cinemas as reported by Hello KPop.
