Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino is here. The long-gestured premier film festival is a seven-day event—beginning on August 16th and concluding on August 22nd—showcasing the best of Philippine Cinema. The films will be screened nationwide in participating theaters (which are, thank heavens, this time plenty), some even booking their cinemas completely in celebration of the fest.

Among the entries (which I encourage you to see all—okay, well, maybe except for AWOL), I’m most excited to see Prime Cruz’s Ang Manananggal Sa Unit 23B and Kip Oebanda’s Bar Boys. The former I missed when it premiered in QCinema last year, the latter I’m simply glad to see finally getting a release. I’d say Mikhail Red’s Birdshot, Victor Villanueva’s Patay Na Si Hesus, and Sherad Sanchez’s Salvage are must-sees and should occupy the top of your watchlist.
