Even though the clear star of the freshly wrapped Apple event was the iPhone X, both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8+ look equally promising handsets. The iPhone X, being a special 10th anniversary version of what The Telegraph considers one of “the most important inventions of the 21st century” thus far, both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8+ hold a uniquely interesting position in the market.

Many will scoff at the idea of two lesser iPhones announced alongside the best one, and many will consider the move redundant. But I think the iPhone 8/8+ are deliberate and smart additions to this year’s lineup of phones. They serve as bridges to the gap that their big sibling’s leap leaves behind. The (almost) bezel-less design too much for you? Here’s the iPhone 8. The iPhone X’s price tag scare you? Well, here’s a cheaper alternative.

We’ll talk more about the new iPhones at length in a separate post, but for now, let’s sort through a little housekeeping.

On this post, we’ll lay down the new iPhones’ specs, price, and availability in the Philippines.

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8+ specs

Compared to the more foreign-looking iPhone X, the iPhone 8/8+ are more familiar in terms of design. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t have anything new. In fact, the new design I think is quite spot-on, with its glass panels and metal bezels. This affords the new iPhones the ability to support wireless charging, a feature that’s been long requested by Apple users. The phones also now run on the new A11 Bionic chip, which is supposedly more powerful than the ones on the iPhone 7 and 7+.

There’s also an improved camera, which introduces a feature called Portrait Lighting. Again, these features we’ll cover in a separate post. For now, here are the full spec sheet for both phones.
