Fortnite: Battle Royale is Epic Games’ reply to the uber-successful last-man-standing game, PlayerUnknown’s BattleGround (or PUBG). Their take incorporates some elements from the original Fortnite game which released just this year into what appears to be a high-octane battle royale experience. Here’s the trailer:
The hook, however, is in the fact that Fortnite: Battle Royale is free-to-play. That’s right. The new game is going to set you back zero dollars, verse PUBG’s $29.99. Epic Games plans to make money by way of in-game purchases. “At some point in the future,” they say in an announcement posted on their blog. “We will sell other things including cosmetics or compendium-like content.”
What’s more, is that players won’t need to own the original Fortnite game in order to get the new battle royale game for free. H1Z1 made a similar move when they released H1Z1: King Of The Kill.
Fortnite: Battle Royale is scheduled for release across a number of platforms including PC, PS4, and XBox One, on September 26th. This gives Epic Games a much-needed head start against PUBG, who just now plans to release on platforms beyond PC.
