Imagine, just Imagine. You open up your game of Overwatch, went into quick play and noticed a new hero in the selection screen. Not just an ordinary hero, but a cat wearing a scary jetpack. Everyone could have been a one-trick-pony. Think that idea was impossible? Well, Blizzard almost made it happen. Yup, really.
“It was a cat in a jectpack”, Jeff Kaplan answered in an interview when asked if they had been an actual hero that didn’t make the final cut.
The Overwatch director said that prior to the game’s launch last year, his team were keen to test the boundaries of what they could and could not get away in terms of hero ideas. They actually had an animal like Winston but the cat was just outrageous, let alone it was equipped with a jetpack. Right?
“We had done a lot of concepting,” says Kaplan. “We had one hero who was just a hockey player. Literally a hockey player. We later made a Lucio skin for a hockey player. But he was just a hockey player hero. Then there was this one hero that was a huge internal debate on the team because we just loved it so much but it didn’t make it. It was this jetpack and it had this cat that laid in it, like a cat does. Then every once in awhile it would paw at the controls.
Maybe in the future they can add that awesome feline, but for now, let’s just enjoy Orisa as the newest hero in Overwatch.
