9 times out of 10, the internet is an enigma. When it isn’t, it is a straightforwardly beautiful thing. Such is when people have discovered unusual powers that come with a little app called FaceApp. The nifty little tool allows users to modify faces in a photo and slap on every imaginable thing into said faces.

As is customary in trends, this started very innocuously with people taking selfies and turning themselves into emojis. Cute idea, right? But you best bet that it does not stop there. Because people are now using it to turn people from old painting’s typically blank expressions into things of unknowable beauty.

On this post, I’ve collated some of the best (and funniest) attempts at turning acrylic frowns upside down.

Olly Gibbs took the app for a spin inside a museum, and the results make a whole spectrum from adorable to creepy.
