August approaches fast with one key event for us cinephiles: the Cinemalaya Film Festival. For Sharonians (that includes this writer, way more than he will admit), the festival rolls in with an even more momentous event: Sharon Cuneta’s first foray into independent cinema.
Ate Shawie’s new film, the Mes De Guzman-directed Ang Pamilyang Hindi Lumuluha, pivots around a woman as she grieves the loss of her husband and children. There’s a whole mythology behind this, rooted in the town where the film is set; but let’s worry about that later. In the meantime, here’s the freshly released, now-viral teaser-trailer:
Based on the trailer, it appears that the film isn’t completely bleak. However, Diablo, the 2012 film from De Guzman, had legitimately humorous moments too. I wouldn’t be so sure.
Ang Pamilyang Hindi Lumuluha premieres alongside other competing entries at the Cinemalaya Film Festival 2017, which runs from August 3rd thru 14th.
