Kong: Skull Island may have resurged interest for rebooting the goji-verse. In the film, a stern American who wears tight white shirt ushers a group of people (and a gargantuan ape named Kong, no biggie) away from the threat of Skullcrawlers, giant reptilian kaijus who mean business. The film performed well at the box office and among its audience, spawning a sequel that faces the two monsters against one another.
Netflix is quick to board the goji-train, releasing a teaser-trailer for an anime film called Godzilla: Monster Planet. Watch it here:
This teaser, while brisk, makes for an exciting watch. A lot of action and sci-fi elements seem to be involved, which should make fans feel easy. The film follows a group of people led by Haruo (a young man orphaned after a kaiju) who travels through hyperspace and returns to a kaiju-infested Earth.
Netflix has yet to set a premiere date for the film. Godzilla: Monster Planet is directed by Hiroyuki Seshita and Kobun Shizuno.
